Lazy river ride opens at Audubon Zoo

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A gentle river of cool, blue water runs past sandy beaches while flamingos roost nearby. It's a little slice of paradise in Uptown New Orleans.

Gator Run, a lazy river ride, opens this weekend at the Audubon Zoo.

The new attraction is part of the Cool Zoo but designed for people of all ages to come play. Hop aboard a raft and take a gentle seven-minute ride around, passing two beaches with chairs and water cannons.

While it only takes a few minutes to make the full loop, zoo officials hope people will spend their whole day relaxing there.

"The smaller water park was geared toward smaller kids and toddlers," says Larry Rivarde of the Audubon Nature Institute. "The lazy river of course is for teenagers and adults because you can float and have fun all day so we're expecting people to bring their entire families to come experience the lazy river."

Gator Run opens to members Saturday and to non-members Sunday. For more information, go to
