Bourbon St. melee ends with broken broom, arrests

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Police arrested a bouncer and a bar patron after the two got into melee that left both men bruised and bloody outside of the French Quarter business.

New Orleans police were called to the 500 block of Bourbon Street around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Witnesses said that security personnel, Christopher Dawkins, 37, asked Byron Lombard, Jr., 31, to leave the premises. Once outside the bar, Dawkins struck Lombard and returned inside, according to police. Moments later, Dawkins left the bar again and returned bleeding from cuts on his back.

Dawkins grabbed a broom and went back outside. The two men got into a fight when Lombard cut Dawkins again and Dawkins hit Lombard with the broom stick until it broke, police said.

Dawkins was arrested for simple battery and aggravated battery. Lombard was booked with aggravated battery.
