Bicyclist killed in hit and run

HOUMA, LA (WVUE) -

Police are on the look-out for the driver of a pickup truck, wanted in a hit and run accident that killed a bicyclist.  The accident happened  shortly before 5 pm Tuesday afternoon on LA 3087 in Terrebonne Parish.   

According to Louisiana State Police,  20 year old Jonathan Young of Houma was riding his bicycle east on LA 3087 in the median, just west of LA 660. . As the bicycle was traveling east in the median, Troopers say Young made a left turn and attempted to cross both westbound lanes of LA 3087. That's when Young was reportedly struck by a 2001 Ford Truck in the right outside lane of LA 3087. 

Witnesses said the driver of the truck, described as an Hispanic man,  exited the vehicle to remove the bicycle from under the truck and then fled the scene in the vehicle. 

Young was transported to Terrebonne General Hospital, but was later transported to University Hospital in New Orleans. Young died this morning from his injuries sustained in the crash.

Following investigative leads, the vehicle was located at 126 Mexico Court in Houma LA. The driver of the vehicle is still wanted at this time.
