BELLE CHASSE, LA (WVUE) -

Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's deputies arrest a man, they say filed a bogus theft report against his friend to support their illegal synthetic marijuana habit.

Investigators say 18-year-old Stephen Franklin, of Belle Chasse, told them his friend pawned his stolen Sony PS Vita to a Westbank Jefferson Parish pawn shop.

Deputies say they arrested Franklin's friend Monday during an unrelated investigation.

While investigators interviewed the friend, they say he admitted he sold Franklin's gaming system to the pawn shop, but denied stealing it.

Deputies say he told them Franklin gave him the device to sell and said Franklin actually stayed in a vehicle outside the business while he pawned it.

Deputies say the man told them he used the $75 he got from the pawn shop to purchase Mojo, synthetic marijuana, for him and Franklin to smoke.

Investigators say Franklin later admitted he falsified the theft report against his friend. Deputies say he told them he made up the story because his mother began questioning him about the missing device.
