NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A crash caused major damage to the exterior walls of Hall G at the Morial Convention Center after police say a woman drove through the front doors early Thursday morning.
Car parts and glass were scattered everywhere outside hall on Convention Center Boulevard. The crash happened around 1:15 a.m.
New Orleans police say the woman, identified as Irina Polushina, 26, was driving river bound on Caliope St. when for some reason she lost control right in front of the convention center. She drove her Toyota Camry through the front doors, causing the glass to explode out onto the street and into the lobby.
Police say once the car was inside the lobby the woman made a U-turn and then came back out, in the process of hitting an exterior wall.
Palushina was issued citations for reckless operation, careless operation and driving under the influence.
No one was inside the convention center at the time, except for possibly a few security personnel. No injuries were reported by employees, however Palushina did suffer minor injuries.
