GRETNA, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana State Police said a U.S Marshals task force arrested escaped inmate Lorenzo Conner Thursday morning at a business in Marrero.
They said a Crimestoppers tip led authorities to the 24-year-old on the West Bank. Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies responded to a call about a person fitting Conner's description at a laundromat in the 6000 block of the Westbank Expressway in Marrero.
After his arrest, Conner was turned over to state police.
He escaped from a transport van in Mid-City early Tuesday morning. He was being taken from Eastern Louisiana State Mental Hospital to Orleans Parish Prison. He had a hearing scheduled at criminal court.
Conner was in custody for the 2011 murder of Nelson Smith. State troopers also arrested a mental health facility guard in connection with Conner's escape.
Wednesday, authorities booked Antonio Webb, 37, with malfeasance in office. He works for the forensic division of the hospital.
Investigators said they have evidence Webb left his post and met with Conner on Saturday.
Conner was taken to the Jefferson Parish Investigations Bureau for questioning and will then be transported to the Orleans Parish Lock-Up. He will be charged as a fugitive and further criminal charges are pending.
