NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Thousand of runners and walkers participated in the 2015 Crescent City Classic, Saturday, but it was an 18-year-old who finished first. John Muritu of Kenya broke the tape at the finish line, becoming the first to complete the 37th annual race.
According to a race official, the top female finisher was Hiwot Ayalew, 25, of Ethiopia, while the local female winner was 30-year-old Michelle Parks of New Orleans. Fellow New Orleans native Andrew Shapiro, 22, was the local male winner.
The official also says that the race generated a total of $500,000 which will be donated to local charities.
FOX 8 was a media partner for the race and passed out water and orange slices to the participants.
