HARVEY, LA (WVUE) -

A man was shot and killed by officers Monday after he opened fire on them in broad daylight, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

The shootout happened at about 2 p.m. in the 2500 block of Manhattan Boulevard.

Deputies said Desmond Willis opened fire on them twice after they tried to pull him over in the nearby Pebble Walk neighborhood during a drug investigation.

In the parking lot of New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood Co., Willis took a "combat-style position" and started firing, deputies said. Officers returned fire, killing Willis.

Sheriff Newell Normand said Willis had two guns on him at the time of the shooting.
