SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - Slidell police say they caught a robber who rammed his car into two police vehicles while trying to get away.
On April 4 at around 4:30 p.m., officers responded to a call about an armed robbery at a Dollar General store on Pontchartrain Drive. The clerk told officers that a man entered the store, implied that he had a weapon and threatened to kill her if she didn't hand over the money behind the counter. The clerk complied, and the suspect got away in a dark-colored Mazda.
The next day, at around 3:30 p.m., Slidell Police responded to another report of an armed robbery, this time at the Dollar General store on Gause Boulevard West. The clerk told a similar story to the one in Saturday's armed robbery, but said the robber tied her up before getting away with the money.
Police spotted someone in a 2002 black Mazda 626 driven by Steven Franck. Police say Franck turned onto Fremaux Avenue from Front Street. An officer tried to stop the vehicle, but Franck refused. After a brief pursuit, Franck rammed the front of a police car on Seventh Street, then put the vehicle in reverse in an attempt to get away and ended up ramming another officer's vehicle.
Franck surrendered to police after his car became pinned between the two police cars.
Police say they found money strewn throughout the interior of the vehicle, along with clothing that matched the description from the robbery. Officers say Franck admitted to robbing both Dollar General stores. He was booked with two counts of first-degree robbery, false imprisonment and resisting and officer by flight.
