ST. CHARLES PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

Former Destrehan High School teacher Shelley Dufresne admitted she had sex with a 16-year-old student.

She pleaded guilty Thursday morning to obscenity. Because of this plea, she can avoid trial and a three year prison sentence.

Under terms of the agreement, Dufresne, 32, must spend 90 days at a mental health facility and be on probation for three years.

If she does not fulfill these terms, she will have to serve 90 days in jail in Saint Charles Parish.

Dufresne had faced a felony charge of carnal knowledge of a juvenile charge and originally pleaded not guilty in November.

The victim said the sex was consensual. Authorities said it happened at some point between Aug. 22 and Sept. 22 at a home in Montz.

In a separate case, Dufresne and Rachel Resspess, 24, are accused of having sex with the same student in Kenner. The case is pending in Jefferson Parish.
