LSU Baseball preparing for Auburn and tricky weather

BATON ROUGE, LA (WVUE) - After rattling off six straight wins and leading the SEC in offensive categories like batting average, home runs and runs scored, the third ranked Tigers (29-5, 8-4) are feeling good about themselves.

LSU' six-game home stand continues with a visit from Auburn (20-13, 4-8), starting Friday at 7 PM.  All three games feature forecasts with a heavy chance of rain, which could present a problem for the pitching staff starting with lefty Jared Poche on Friday.

Head coach Paul Mainieri has confidence in his young arms to maintain focus. "I tell you it takes a special kid. It takes a lot of mental toughness to deal with whether or not the weather is going to be good enough to play, whether or not you can play," Mainieri said. "And still maintain your focus. And still maintain that zone that an athlete has to get into."

LSU is currently second in the SEC West with six conference series remaining in the season.

The AP preseason poll came out today, and of course Alabama is No. 1. I'm going to breakdown a few teams in my Top 25. This is the 9th year I'm doing an AP poll. Fist off, no shock, I have the Tide in the top spot. Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, doesn't matter who's at QB. Week one they play Louisville in Orlando. Right now they're only 24-point favorites. Georgia holds No. 2 in my poll. Another year of Jake Fromme under center is a great reason to have the Dawgs here. South Carolina ...more>>
