ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

The Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office says a burglar left them a trail to follow after he robbed a Family Dollar store on April 3.

Sheriff Mike Waguespack says the department responded to a burglary alarm at the store in Paincourtville on Highway 1 at about 3:30 a.m.

Deputies found a broken window and a trail of food items leading away from the business. They say witnesses and video surveillance provided them with information that 38-year-old Kentrell McNeil may have robbed the store. When detectives found him, they say he had shopping bags and items from the store, including candy and hot dogs.

McNeil was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on April 7. He faces charges of simple burglary and possession of stolen things.

His bond was set at $5,683.
