HOUSTON, TX (WVUE) - Tulane baseball lost on the road to Houston after coming back to tie the game in the seventh inning.
Houston (22-12, 3-4) put the first points on the board in the bottom of the fourth, but Tulane (21-13, 2-5) tied it up on a triple from sophomore Jake Willsey that brought fellow sophomore Jake Rogers home.
The Green Wave then took the lead in the sixth when sophomore Stephan Alemais took off from third after on a hit from senior John Gandolfo. However, Houston put two more on the board to take the lead in the same inning.
Tulane's Corey Merrill started the night on the mound, allowing six hits and three runs in just over 5 innings. Patrick Duester relieved him and pitched the final three innings, allowing two hits on the night.
The second hit Duester allowed brought Houston's Josh Vidales home for the winning run. The final score was Houston 4, Tulane 3.
The second game in the series starts Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m. CT. The game was moved up to avoid potential inclement weather on Saturday evening.
