MADISONVILLE, LA (WVUE) -

Police arrested a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's office reserve deputy after he allegedly took a Sheriff's office boat on a drunken joy ride.

According to  the STPSO, Danny Eckhart boarded a patrol boat docked on the Tchefuncte River and took it down river. As he approached the T-Rivers, police say he ran the boat into a piling outside the establishment and damaged the vehicle.

Eckhart was not acting in any official capacity at the time and police say he was immediately de-commissioned following the incident.

After detectives investigated the incident along with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Eckhart was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on once charge of unauthorized use of a movable and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Eckhart is now out on a $7,500 bond.

The Sheriff's office says they will seek restitution in court for the damages to the boat.
