NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

An employee of a Carrollton Ave. convenience store beat a woman over the head with a beer bottle during an armed robbery.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. Sunday at Magnolia Discount, located in the 3400 block of S. Carrollton Ave.

Police say that a woman armed with a pistol entered the store demanding money. While the employee was filling a backpack with cash, officers say she laid the gun down.

The employee, a 60-year-old man, grabbed a beer bottle and moved the suspect's gun, according to New Orleans police. He struck the suspect over the head with the bottle.

Officers say that the suspect fled the scene with cash.
