NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Riptide was ripped off.

The beloved Tulane University mascot had its head stolen, according to the The Hullabaloo.

It happened nearly three weeks ago, preventing Riptide from participating in the men's and women's basketball conference tournaments.

"Mascots are key figures in every athletics department around the nation and Riptide is no different for Tulane Athletics and its fans," Assistant Athletic Director for Athletics Communications Roger Dunaway told The Hullabaloo. "Riptide was noticeably absent from both our men's and women's basketball tournament games at the American Championships and during the first round of our women's basketball team's appearance at the NCAA Tournament."

Tulane plans on giving Riptide a makeover. They hope to have the new design in time for football season.

However, Dunaway would like to see the head of the school's mascot returned.

(Editor's note: Consider using the New Orleans Pelican's King Cake baby until you have your new mascot.)
