NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

You can't fly the best airline in the country out of Armstrong International.

Researchers at Embry-Rriddle Aeronautical University and Wichita State University say Virgin America was the overall best airline for travelers in 2014.

The researchers considered factors like on-time arrivals, mishandled bags, bumped passengers and consumer complaints when they put together their list. They say overall more flights are late, more bags are getting lost and customers are filing more complaints.

Hawaiian Airlines and Delta Airlines round out the top three best airlines for travelers.

Envoy-American Eagle, ExpressJet and SkyWest rank the worst among the country's leading 12 airlines.
