Pelicans defeat Spurs, punch ticket to playoffs

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Coming into Wednesday's season finale against the defending NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs, the New Orleans Pelicans knew the task at hand. Win and they're in the Western Conference Playoffs. The Pelicans not only won, but they made a statement, defeating the Spurs 108-103 in front of a sell-out crowd in the Smoothie King Center.

Anthony Davis led the way for the Pelicans (45-37) with 31 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. Tyreke Evans recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds.

The Spurs (55-27) were led by Tony Parker who posted 23 points. Tim Duncan had 15 points and 10 rebounds

New Orleans finished the regular season with the same record as the Oklahoma City, but the Pelicans held the tiebreaker over the Thunder by winning the season series 2-1.

The atmosphere inside the Smoothie King Center was absolutely electric for the entire game. Fans started out strong and loud, wearing red and cheering them on every step of the way.

The Pelicans move on to the Western Conference Playoffs for the first time since the 2010-11 season. The No. 8 Pelicans will face the top-seeded Golden State Warriors in the first round.
