METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - Police are still looking for the person they say robbed a woman at gunpoint in Metairie early Thursday morning.
According to Jefferson Parish deputies, the 41-year-old victim, who works as a babysitter, was walking on the North I-10 Service road near the corner of Danny Park just before 7 a.m., when someone stuck a gun in her back and demanded her purse.
The suspect took off with the woman's purse and got into the passenger side of a light blue Ford Ranger nearby before driving away.
"For somebody to have that kind of gall, to drive over here and rob somebody in this neighborhood is shocking, because you're gonna have dozens of witnesses. It seems like, in the morning, you've got traffic with school, you've got people going to work. Like I said, this is a very heavily traveled street at that time in the morning," Richard Allen, who lives nearby, said.
Allen was upset that the woman was targeted so early in the morning and thinks the robbery hits too close to home.
"Anybody walking out of their home at that time of the morning - at 7 o'clock - you've got a lot of people leaving to go to work at that time in the morning. It's very concerning that it could've been any one of us, male or female, depending on what they were looking for. Evidently in this case, they were looking for a female with a purse, but what woman doesn't carry a purse," Allen said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
