NOPD: Bicyclist runs stop sign, dies after hit by two cars

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

New Orleans Police are investigating a fatality that claimed the life of a 49-year-old male bicyclist. The incident occurred Saturday, just before 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Cleveland and South Saratoga Streets.

Police say that the bicyclist was going east on South Saratoga when he disregarded a stop sign and was hit by a 35-year-old man in a car, who was traveling down Cleveland. Shortly thereafter the bicyclist was struck by a 67-year-old man, who was traveling down South Saratoga.

The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Both drivers stayed on scene, after striking the bicyclist. Police cited the 35-year-old for driving without a driver's license.

The NOPD's Fatality Unit is continuing to investigate the incident.
