East Jefferson General Hospital announced on Monday that it has ended lease negotiations with Hospital Corporation of America (HCA).
The EJGH board of directors says the decision was based on terms HCA failed to meet to restructure East Jeff's current relationship with Tulane University.
The Nashville-based hospital management company initially withdrew its candidacy last February to lease EJGH along with West Jefferson Medical Center, saying the Jefferson Parish Council's decision-making process was taking too long.
The council went on to select LCMC Health to take over West Jefferson Medical Center, and has since signed a lease to operate that hospital for 45 years.
HCA decided in December of 2014 to again consider a leasing deal for East Jefferson.
However, The EJGH board says now since ending leasing negotiations with HCA it will not actively pursue other partnership opportunities.
Both East and West Jefferson hospitals originally sought out private partnerships to keep the public hospitals financially stable.
