ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

Fracking opponents looking for the courts to block a new rig in St. Tammany, suffer two setbacks in less than week.

A state court in Baton Rouge ruled Monday that parish zoning rules can't override a state drilling permit. The parish filed suit, claiming fracking was prohibited under local zoning.

The Army Corps of Engineers still needs to approve the project.

Last week, a state judge dismissed one of two lawsuits the city of Abita Springs has filed in an effort stop Helis Oil's fracking plan in St. Tammany.
