NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Days of heavy rain could mean an increase of mosquitoes.
Mosquito control experts say recent rains have created the perfect conditions for standing water around homes you might not even notice.
Containers as tiny as a bottle cap, a clogged gutter or even the tarp on a grill can turn into mosquito breeding grounds. The biting bugs love to breed in stagnant water.
"The areas that are going to be impacted the most are going to be those areas either bordering the marsh area or woodland areas," said Steve Pavlovich, an entomologist with Mosquito Control, Inc. "Most mosquitoes we're concerned about are the floodwater and woodland mosquitoes that are pests. They are not a large concern for disease transmission like West Nile, but are the more vicious biters that you can be concerned about."
Experts say the best bug repellent is one that contains DEET.
