Bill to study merger of NOPD with OPSO delayed

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - State lawmakers will wait another week before taking on a bill that could lead to an eventual merger of the NOPD with the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office.

State Senator J.P. Morrell's bill calls for the creation of a commission to study the organization and reorganization of law enforcement agencies within Orleans Parish.

The bill was expected to go before a state Senate committee Tuesday. Morrell says he wants more time before a vote. He expects the bill will go to committee next week.
