COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - One arrest has been made and an arrest warrant has been issued in connection with the abandonment of a 2-year-old boy Monday on the north shore, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.
The boy's mother, 39-year-old Charity Hunter of Abita Springs, was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on one count of being an accessory after the fact to child desertion. She has since been released on a $5,000 bond.
Hunter's boyfriend and the biological father of the child, 25-year-old Nicholas Wolfe of Abita Springs, was hospitalized with minor injuries he sustained when he allegedly abandoned his son. He was then transferred to another medical facility for evaluation. When he is released, he will be booked with child desertion.
Investigators said on Monday Wolfe dropped the child off in the driveway of a random home on Highway 435. Deputies made contact with both parents later that day, and during their interview with Hunter they determined that she was trying to protect Wolfe over the interests of their child.
The child is currently in the custody of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services.
