Suspects identified in Lower 9th Ward murder

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

New Orleans police are asking for the public's help in finding two suspects wanted in connection with an April 14 murder in the Lower Ninth Ward.

They say 18-year-old James "Ponnie" Lewis and 17-year-old August Garnett are wanted for the shooting death of 40-year-old Cantrell Monday. The shooting happened at the intersection of Alabo and Marias streets.

Officers found Monday in the middle of the street with a gunshot wound to the head. He later died at the hospital.

Garnett is wanted for armed robbery, illegal use of a firearm and second-degree murder. Lewis will be booked with second-degree murder.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
