NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department has named two suspects in an Algiers shooting that left an 18-year-old man injured. Kwame Flemings, 23, and Jermaine Quillens, 23 are wanted in connection with the shooting that took place Wednesday around 6 p.m. in the 1000 block of Hendee Street.
According to police, the victim told detectives that he was walking in the 1000 block of Hendee when Flemings, Quillens and a third unidentified man, who was walking a dog, approached him. The victim said that he began to argue with Flemings over a prior misunderstanding. The victim told detectives that as he attempted to walk away, he heard Quillens tell Flemings to shoot at him. Flemings fired shots at the victim, hitting him in the arm.
Afterwards, the three men ran away, while the victim fell down in the back yard of a house in the 1800 block of Hendee. The victim was brought to a local hospital by EMS. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Detectives later learned that a 24-year-old man was treated at the hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg and that a dog was also received non-life threatening injuries in the incident. Investigators identified the 24-year-old as the third man involved in the shooting and believe that he was injured during the shooting.
Detectives were able to identify Flemings as the shooter and Quillens as an accomplice. Once arrested, Kwame Flemings will be booked with attempted second degree murder and Jermaine Quillens will be booked with principal to attempted second degree murder.
