Metro area under a tornado watch

Tornado watches are in effect until 8 p.m. for parts of Southeast Louisiana with some parishes coming under severe thunderstorm warnings.

The National Weather Service has declared a tornado watch for Orleans, Jefferson, Lafourche, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. John The Baptist and Terrebonne parishes. The watches will last until 8 p.m.

Severe Thunder Storm Warnings were issued for Lafourche and St. John the Baptist Parishes until 5:30 p.m.

The extended outlook shows a pretty decent weekend after noon on Saturday.

Models that are initializing correctly seem to indicate a high chance for spotty showers and storms this afternoon, most staying to our north and west.

We are under a slight risk for some of the storms to become severe late tonight and early Saturday. The greatest threat tomorrow would come early in the day.

After that, it will be drier for the rest of Saturday and Sunday with highs Sunday in the upper 80s, as one or two locations could get their first 90 of the year.
