NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A High Wind Warning is in effect for the entire viewing area. A wake has developed bringing damaging wind gusts over portions of southeast Louisiana. Winds between 50 and 55 mph have been reported.
Heavy storms move in over the New Orleans metro area, bringing in blankets of rain, heavy lighting and strong winds.
Hail has been reported across the area.
Law enforcement reported a tornado in Terrebonne and Lafourche Parish Line near the Thibodaux Medical Center. Military officials at the Belle Chasse Naval Air Station also reported a tornado in the area.
Thousands are left without power around the New Orleans metro area as a massive storm moves over the city. FOX 8 has received dozens of reports of downed power lines, snapped trees, heavy lighting, flooding streets and damaging winds.
In Jefferson Parish, high winds tossed eleven rail cars from the Huey P. Long Bridge. No injuries were reported in the incident. Officials do not believe the cars were carrying hazardous materials.
The Causeway Bridge is closed in both directions due to high winds and heavy rains.
South Louisiana braces for severe weather on Monday, bringing the potential for tornadoes and flooding in some areas. All types of weather are possible including hail, damaging winds, heavy rainfall and tornadoes.
