ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A Lacombe woman who was shot in the head by her ex-boyfriend Monday managed to drive herself to the hospital.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., the woman arrived at the Louisiana Heart Hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. She is undergoing treatment and will be held for evaluation.
The suspect, 56-year-old Ronald Anthony Brown of Pearl River, is in custody.
The woman told police that went she went home Monday evening, Brown was inside armed with a weapon. After a physical struggle, the woman tried to flee in her car, and Brown shot her through the rear window.
Out of precaution, the hospital was placed on lockdown, as an initial report indicated a vehicle similar to Brown's - a 2000 silver Dodge Stratus - was seen in the area. The lockdown has since been lifted.
Deputies canvassed the area around the hospital but found nothing. A search for Brown ensued, concentrated on the eastern side of the parish where he had known associates.
Just after 9 p.m., deputies located Brown on Boy Scout Road in Lacombe and he was arrested without incident. His weapon was also recovered.
Brown was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on one count of attempted murder.
According to hospital staff, the woman's injuries do not appear to be life threatening; although, she is still undergoing evaluation and treatment.
