NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Three men have been arrested following a shooting in the Lower Garden District.
The incident happened around 6:25 p.m. Monday in the 2300 block of Constance Street. Officers say that a group of four teens was walking in the area when a vehicle approached and opened fire.
An 18-year-old man was shot in the head. He was taken to the hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
Detectives say that the four victims, three 15-year-olds and an 18-year-old, were playing basketball at a nearby gym when they first made contact with the suspects. They told police that they were frightened by the men and began walking away.
As they were walking in the block, police say a silver Nissan approached and the occupant(s) opened fire, striking the 18-year-old in the head. The other three victims were not injured by gunfire.
During the course of the investigation, detectives say they broadcasted a description of the vehicle used in the incident. An officer spotted the vehicle and a short vehicle pursuit ensued.
Police say the suspects left the vehicle at South Derbigny and General Taylor Streets and fled on foot.
All three suspects were later apprehended. Officers say they recovered a handgun from the scene and learned that the vehicle used in the incident was reported stolen.
All three apprehended males were identified as the suspects involved in the shooting. They have been identified as 17-year-old Cody Hunter, 20-year-old Jovonta Robertson and 24-year-old Joseph Morgan.
All three were booked with four counts of attempted first degree murder.
