HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - A man has surrendered to police after barricading himself inside of his home. Houma police initially said the man was armed and dangerous.
Officers were called to a home in the 100 block of Wilson Avenue around 8 a.m. Thursday.
A 39-year-old woman told police that she was concerned for the well-being of her son, telling police that the child's father was not taking the 5-year-old to school. Officers arriving at the father's residence say that the suspect refused to speak to officers or exit the residence.
The 5-year-old was locked inside of the home with the suspect. The child was later released uninjured.
Police continued negotiations with the suspect, who went back inside of the residence after releasing the child. The man surrendered shortly before noon.
Investigators are still on the scene of the incident. No injuries have been reported.
