NOPD officer suspended after stalking arrest

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - An NOPD officer was placed on emergency suspension after being arrested for violating a protection order and cyberstalking.

Officer Chris Durning, an eight-year veteran most recently assigned to the First District, was arrested by members of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office after surrendering Wednesday.

On April 28, the JPSO contacted the NOPD Public Integrity Bureau about a complaint of alleged police misconduct involving Durning. The complaint alleged that Durning had sent constant and multiple threatening emails to his former wife. During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Durning had a restraining order filed against him that forbids him from any communication with her.

JPSO obtained an arrest warrant and PIB suspended him without pay.
