NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Researchers working to make the Causeway Bridge safer say a third-rail design passed tests today with "flying colors."
The Texas A&M Transportation Institute is working to perfect higher railings to keep drivers from going over the side of the bridge in crashes.
On Thursday afternoon, they ran the first crash tests on the design. They call these tests the most critical, and research engineer William Williams says it was very successful.
The institute has two more tests to run on the design.
