NOPD: Car burglar caught in the act

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police booked a 38-year-old man with auto burglary on Thursday, after a French Quarter Task Force officer allegedly caught him rummaging through a vehicle.

According to an NOPD news release, Officer Ron Howard heard a car alarm around 5:30 a.m. during a routine patrol in the 900 block of Dauphine Street.

As Howard went to investigate, the NOPD says the suspect told the officer he was looking for his room key.

The man, who was later identified as Thomas Patrick, eventually admitted the vehicle was not his and said that he was looking for a place to get warm.
