Slidell Police to release baby's autopsy report

SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - Slidell Police could release an autopsy report and description as soon as Tuesday on a baby whose body was found in the trash compactor of a Slidell apartment complex.

A maintenance worker at the  Canterbury House Apartments made the discovery Monday at about 9:15 a.m. The worker found the infant under several garbage bags.

"We are at the very early stages of this investigation and will hopefully know more by this evening or early tomorrow morning," said Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith.

Investigators are working closely with the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office in order to determine the cause of death, age of the baby, and other important clues that will help with the investigation.

Detectives are trying to determine if the infant was alive when it was put in the compactor or if it was still born and put in the compactor.

People at the apartment complex are being questioned, but police are not limiting their investigation to just people who live there.
