TERREBONNE PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Four Louisiana men were arrested Friday accused of making counterfeit checks.
Terrebonne Parish detectives were alerted to the scheme after a local convenience store said it had accepted several checks that the bank returned as counterfeit. Detectives say their investigation revealed the four suspects cashed a series of fake checks totaling about $10,000 at the store last week.
The arrested all face a charge of monetary instrument abuse. Scott Morris, 27, Gray (1 count); Randy Rials, 35, Thibodaux (2 counts); Coty Wyre, 27, Gray (1 count) and Tracy Anderson, 42, Houma (3 counts).
Detectives say Anderson made the counterfeit checks on his home computer and passed them out to his friends to cash. They say he received a portion of money from each fake check that was cashed.
All of the suspects are being held at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex while they await a bond hearing.
