Man sought in Saturday morning French Quarter shooting

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for a 22-year-old man in connection with an early morning shooting Saturday in the French Quarter.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Bienville and Decatur Street.

Police said at around 1:30 a.m., the 27-year-old male victim was walking to his vehicle that was parked at the intersection. Moments later, the suspect, Rodney Jackson, approached the victim and said "what's up?" Jackson immediately opened fired on the victim striking him at least once in the chest.

The victim ran for safety and Jackson followed, continuing to shoot. Johnson then fled the area on foot. EMS arrived and took the victim to the hospital, where he is recovering from his injuries.

During the course of the investigation, Detective Steve Nolan learned from witnesses that Jackson may have discarded a gun in a parked Grey Honda Accord. Louisiana State Police recovered a loaded .9mm from inside of the vehicle

Through further investigation, Jackson was positively identified as the shooter in this incident. When he is caught, Jackson will be booked with one count of aggravated battery by shooting and illegal use of a firearm.

Jackson is currently at large.

Jackson's last known address is 7600 Lehigh Street in New Orleans East.
