NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The Regional Transit Authority asks that motorists reduce their speed through work zones during the ongoing construction of the North Rampart Street/St. Claude Avenue Streetcar Project.
The agency also cautions that buses and large vehicles will not be able to make the right turn from Dumaine Street for approximately three weeks and should use an alternative route from the French Quarter onto North Rampart Street.
New traffic controls went into effect Monday morning (May 4th) that shift vehicular traffic from the inside lane to the parking lane on the riverside of Rampart Street to accommodate track installation in the section from Orleans Avenue to St. Philip Street. These traffic controls will be in effect for about three weeks.
"We ask that motorists slow down and use extreme caution, particularly when they are in the stretch between Orleans and St. Philip and between Elysian Fields and St. Bernard," said RTA/Transdev Project Manager Martin Pospisil. "There are construction workers, pedestrians and cyclists in the area. To keep everyone safe is our priority."
