WASHINGTON PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

A Washington Parish jail inmate died in his cell on Tuesday from what authorities say is an apparent suicide.

Timothy Bryan Barrett, 37, was found shortly after 5:00 a.m. He had been arrested by the Bogalusa Police Department and held since February. Authorities say he was being held as a fugitive out of Virginia.

Various law enforcement agencies are investigating the death including the state police and the Washington Parish District Attorney's Office. Preliminary reports indicate no foul play, but the investigation continues.

"It is always regrettable when any individual decides to take his own life. I extend my sincere condolences to Mr. Barrett's family," Sheriff Randy Seal said.

Authorities say while Barrett was arrested in Bogalusa, his family is in Minnesota.
