'Feral' tagger, St. Roch vandals using the same tool to deface buildings

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The man responsible for tagging the word "FERAL" more than 100 times in the French Quarter is using the same tool - a spray gun - as the group who vandalized the St. Roch Market last week.

"We do not believe they are related, but there is that possibility," NOPD spokesperson Garry Flot said.

Surveillance video caught all of the vandals in the act, and NOPD officials say there is an ongoing investigation into the incidents.

The feral tagger hit one wall near the corner of St. Phillip and Bourbon three times.

"We've tried mineral spirits, a little bit of a product called 'goof off,'" contractor Mike Roberts said.

A French Quarter homeowner hired Roberts to remove a feral tag on Tuesday.

"Whatever they are using is some pretty good paint, and the end result is you have to paint over the whole thing," Roberts said.

"The owners have to paint over their buildings time and time again," said Vincent Marcello, who sits on the Vieux Carre Graffiti Abatement Committee. "There's cameras at every block. We are going to catch him."
