Police: Text message leads officers to suspects in stolen vehicle

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans Police say they arrested two people in a stolen car with guns and marijuana. Officers say Tuesday morning a man received a text message advising him that two men were in his vehicle near the intersection of N. Dupre St. and Orleans Ave.

Police say when they tracked down the vehicle, they found 17-year-old Jashad Simmons and 19-year-old Aaron Smith inside of it. Officers say one of the suspects had a small amount of pot and a small semi-auto handgun. They say the other was carrying a handgun with an extended magazine.

Police booked Simmons and Smith with several charges including illegal carrying of a firearm, possession of stolen property and narcotics violations.
