NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - An Orleans Parish sheriff's deputy is off the job, accused of smuggling drugs to inmates - inmates, who we're told, are known gang members.
Sheriff Marlin Gusman says former deputy Rubin Robertson was arrested Thursday and now faces drug, contraband and malfeasance in office charges. Investigators don't believe Robertson had any gang affiliation, but they say he was paid cash in exchange for that contraband.
Robertson had only joined the sheriff's office a year ago.
"Unfortunately, we don't think this was his first time, and that's how we were able to develop the information," Gusman said.
The sheriff also says the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed in the case.
