NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Drivers taking I-10 West next weekend may need to change their route.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development wants motorists throughout the New Orleans area to be aware of the start of a $1.3 million rehabilitation project on Interstate 10 westbound (over Julia Street) to replace one girder and repair damaged steel and connection plates.
Beginning Friday, May 15, at 10 p.m. through Monday, May 18, at 6 a.m., westbound I-10 from the U.S. 90 Business West (Westbank)/U.S. 90 West (Claiborne Avenue) exit to the South Broad Street overpass will be completely closed to all traffic.
Additionally, the I-10 westbound entrance ramp from Poydras St. will be completely closed to all traffic.
During the closure period, the contractor will be removing and replacing a steel cross beam and an expansion joint that spans across the entire width of I-10 westbound.
Vehicles, including emergency and permit vehicles, will not have any access to the closed segment.
Motorists can detour via westbound I-10 to continue past the I-10 West exit onto U.S. 90 B to St Charles Ave. exit, make the U-turn at Carondelet and continue on the up ramp to U.S. 90 B eastbound).
All work is expected to be completed by June 2015. The planned construction activities are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to drive with caution through this and other highway work zones. Also, be alert for the presence of construction workers and equipment.
