State Police: Impaired driver hit and killed bicyclist, then fled

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A woman faces vehicular homicide and DWI charges after State Police say she hit and killed a bicyclist, then took off and went home. The crash happened Thursday night around 11 p.m. in St. John the Baptist Parish on LA 636-3 at Water Plant Road.

Troopers say 29-year-old Darla Gauthreaux of St. Rose was driving a 2012 Nissan when she hit 55-year-old Wellman Joseph. Joseph of LaPlace died on the scene.

State Police say Gauthreaux fled the scene and a family member at her residence called the St. John Sheriff's Office about the crash.

After interviewing Gauthreaux, troopers booked her with vehicular homicide, DWI, and felony hit and run. The crash remains under investigation.
