LACOMBE, LA (WVUE) - Firefighters risked their lives to rescue a small dog from a house fire on the North Shore.

Authorities responded to a call from neighbors of the house on Jackson Street in Lacombe around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Heavy fire and smoke were coming from the front of the single story home.

St. Tammany Fire District 3 firefighters did not know if anyone was inside. They entered the residence to extinguish the flames and search for victims.

The house was empty, except for a small dog, that you can see on a firefighter's helmet camera about 1:10 into the video. The dog had obvious complications due to smoke and heat. He was rescued and placed on oxygen by fire personnel and the fire was quickly extinguished.

The state fire marshal was notified and arrived on scene to help determine the cause of the fire. It remains under investigation.

The dog was taken to an emergency vet by a neighbor. His condition remains unknown. No other injuries were reported.
