PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Noces Joseph Lafont Jr.,better known as "Swamp People" star Trapper Joe, was arrested for domestic abuse battery in Plaquemines Parish.
Lafont was arrested on May 6 after his live in girlfriend reported that he broke two of her ribs, according to the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office.
Police said that the alleged victim reported the incident at the Belle Chasse Lock-up on April 12. When she arrived at the station, she told police that she went to speak with Lafont in their residence and found him texting on his phone. Shortly after a woman known as Laura arrived at the house. Laura left after a brief conversation.
Later that night, after the alleged victim's children and grandchildren left, she went to speak with Lafont and found him texting again. The woman then asked Lafont who he was texting. She told police that Lafont did not answer her, so she took his cell phone.
According to the alleged victim, Lafont then grabbed the purse on her shoulder, pulled on it several times, then pushed her to the floor. When she landed, the alleged victim said she heard a pop on her left side. After the incident the woman moved back in with her mother.
Police say the alleged victim did not go to a doctor out of embarrassment. Several days later, she got an X-ray and CAT scan because of the pain and discovered two fractured ribs. She then contacted police.
The alleged victim does not want to pursue criminal charges and only wanted the incident documented for possible civil litigation according to police. However, because it is a domestic violence case, the report will go to the District Attorney's office for review.
Lafont was arrested on May 5, booked on May 6 and released on May 8 on $3,500 bond. Lafont was granted a temporary restraining order against the alleged victim.
He is due back in court on June 1.
Lafont has two prior domestic violence arrests. One in Florida in 2012 that was refused in court and a domestic abuse battery arrest in Jefferson Parish on June 7, 2013.
