HARVEY, LA (WVUE) - A suspect was shot and killed by a deputy Friday in Harvey.
The shooting happened at 8:45 p.m. in the 3000 block of Destrehan Avenue in Harvey.
According to Jefferson Parish sheriff's spokesman Col. John Fortunato, the incident began when police responded to an aggravated assault at a supermarket on the Westbank Expressway. A subject entered the store and confronted his ex-girlfriend and a man who was with her. Words were exchanged, and the subject left.
As the ex-girlfriend and the man were leaving the store, the subject pulled up to them in a car, pointed a gun at them and then drove away, Fortunato said.
Officers then went to the subject's home on Destrehan Avenue. They knocked on the door and the subject answered, armed with semi-automatic handgun, Fortunato said. When the subject began to squeeze the trigger, an officer fired one shot, killing him. There was no exchange of gunfire, Fortunato said.
Fortunato said no other information was available, as the investigation was in the initial stage. Fox8live,com will update this story as the Sheriff's Office releases details.
