MARRERO, LA (WVUE) -

An officer with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department was injured Sunday after being dragged by a suspect's car.

The incident occurred around 4:20 p.m. in the 2600 block of Wyoming Avenue in Marrero.

Police said officer Monica McLaurin responded to a call of a possible stabbing. When she arrived, she found the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Kenosha Richard, sitting in her car.

As McLaurin walked up to the car and reached into the door, Richard put the car in reverse, driving backward while McLaurin held on. McLaurin was dragged a short distance before falling onto the road and landing against a pickup truck.

Officers were able to stop Richard's car and take her into custody. Following the arrest, officers searched the area and located Richard's boyfriend, identified as a 29-year-old man from Thibodaux, lying in a pool of blood.

He was brought to University Hospital and treated for a large cut to the upper body. He is listed in guarded condition.

McLaurin was brought to West Jefferson Medical Center where she was treated for several hours. She suffered injuries to her back, legs and neck, police said.

Richard was booked with one count of attempted murder of a police officer and one count of aggravated battery by cutting, in addition to narcotics-related charges.
