The body of an unidentified male was pulled from the Mississippi River Tuesday morning about a half-mile north of Port Sulpher, according to the Plaqumines Parish Sheriff's Office.
Police say around 10:20 a.m., the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office Marine Division, with the assistance of the Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District, recovered the body of an unidentified male from the Mississippi River near mile marker 38. The body is believed to be that of a male, about 6'01" tall, with a medium-to-large build.
Earlier in the morning, around 1:30 a.m., the sheriff's office received a call of a possible body floating on the Westbank side of the river near area the Phillips 66 Alliance Refinery.
About 15 minutes later, personnel from the PPSO Marine Division conducted a search of the area, but due to low light visibility and debris in the river, the search was canceled at 4:30 a.m.
About 7:00 a.m., the PPSO Marine Division resumed the search. While searching, Deputies were notified that a passing river pilot spotted the body near mile marker 46. Deputies, Plaquemines Port, and Coroner's Office personnel recovered the body.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
